My role

I was involved in this startup as a lead designer. I did research, defined the core features of the service, designed the app and website and prototyped them to be able to test the idea.

The idea

With LinesUp it will be easier to find new business or hobby connections based on your location. If you have long transfer connection in an airport or visiting a conference and want to meet new people this app supposed to help you to find right people.

Design process

When I started this project, the clients had a n idea of the app but I suggested to do a research and understand the problem and needs of our users. We identified 3 major steps in the process we followed: Discover, Design and Deliver.

Discover state
  • Identifying a target user or group of users. Who is our user and why?
  • Task analysis. What do our users do? Explore what kind of problems do our users have (including use-cases and scenarios)?
  • Setting requirements. What should we do for our users? Based on the previous analysis set a list of requirements for our service. This list will be the basis for our design.
  • Definition of our goal. What do we do and which needs do we cover? Prioritize requirements (must, should, could, would) and by selecting the most important ones (or all of them) deliver clearly identifying task for the design.
  • Planning the design process. How are we going to design? Lean design (build – measure – learn).

Identifying personas

To understand our user group we interviewed several people and based on their portraits built main characters.

Design state
  • Conceptualization / low level visualization. How to find where to dig? The first time we translate requirements into interface solutions. We come up with several concepts to define a starting point for design.
  • Team evaluation. What to select? Evaluation of the concepts and selecting/combining features.
  • Defining screens / middle-level visualization. Mapping user flows with screens for mobile and web.
  • Team evaluation / user testing. Evaluate the design, test with basic scenarios and apply changes if needed.
  • Graphic and interaction design. Pixel perfect adjustments using material design.

Conceptualization

Quick sketch of one of the concepts. Later we will take the idea of radar as one of the features of the app.

Deliver state

Deliver state is the outcome of the design process. It has to provide mockups and specification including the description of colors, fonts, basic UI elements, and interactions.

Radar

A scanner of people around you based on your interests.

People

List of people based on location and interests.

Trips

List of your trips.
